D. Engesather was born September 22, 1886. He graduated from medical school in 1902 and served in the Army Medical Corps in France during World War I. On June 18, 1925 he was married to Laura E. Norley. He established his medical practice in 1919 in Brocket until 1950 when he moved to Lakota in semi-retirement. Many memories and recollections are rich and varied; the almost continuous travel with horses and covered bus during the tragic winter days of 1920 when influenza ravaged our country. Many will remember if you were at homes where doctors could not be reached by telephone, a lantern was hung on the mail-box as a signal for doctors to make their stop. While Doctor John was a resident of Brocket he was active in civic affairs and served as the first commander of the Brocket American Legion Post and was a member of the Vaage Lutheran Church. Doctor John Engesather passed away in June 1968. His wife Laura resides in Lakota, North Dakota.
