Jesse Saunders` Company of North Carolina Militia in an expedition against the Scotch Tories; he enlisted shortly after "Gates` defeat" and served 3 months as a Private in NC Regiment; he enlisted next in Prince Edward County, VA (while on a visit to his uncle), served 3 months as Private in Capt. Allen`s Company of Virginia Militia and was discharged Sep 22, 1781. Pension: Certificate No. 23 283 was issued Dec 18, 1833 to John Landers, rate $23.11 per annum, commenced Mar 4, 1831, act of Jun 7, 1832, Georgia Agency. An official report from the Treasury Dept. Washington, DC, shows that Mourning Landers, widow of John Landers, was paid the pension which had accrued at the time of his death on Oct 30, 1840. It was stated in 1832 that John Landers had been a "preacher of the gospel" for about 40 years. Residences: He was reared in Granville, NC, and resided there at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. After the war he moved to Columbia County, GA, where he resided nine years, then returned to North Carolina and resided in Caswell County for 29 years, then moved to DeKalb County, GA, where he resided in 1833. Death: Veteran died on Oct 30, 1840. [Benton County, Alabama] Last Payment of Pension: From records of the Comptroller General, General Accounting Ofc, Washington, DC. - Concerning a Revolutionary pensioner named John Landers, Certificate No. 23283, Georgia Agency, you are advised that he died on Oct 30, 1840, in Benton County, Alabama, leaving a widow, Mourning Landers. The arrears of pension due at the date of death, covering the period from Mar 4, 1840 to Oct 30, 1840, were paid by the Treasury Dept. Washington, DC, on Aug 27, 1841. Remittance was made to John Landers, JR, care of W.H. Eifell, Jacksonville, Alabama, as attorney for the widow.
