This island is the most westerly point of the possessions of the United States, and is the most important of the Aleutian group. These islands are supposed to have been densely populated, as ruined villages and mummies of former inhabitants are found. The whole group has a population of about 5,000 natives and half-breeds, mostly members of the Greek church, a chapel existing on each principal island. Additional Comments: Extracted from: R. L.
