A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 2501 Maplewood, with a potluck reception afterward. Don was born Nov. 18, 1952, in Kirchheim/Teck, Germany. Don and his sister, Nelda were adopted from Germany by Fred and Lily Hickok and arrived in Hot Springs, S.D., on July 16, 1954. Don lived in South Dakota until age 14, when he moved with his family, arriving in Anchorage on June 23, 1967. In 1972, Don graduated from East Anchorage, where he met his wife and life partner, Jeanette Henderson. Together they had two sons, Jeremy and Bradley. Don, who retired in November 2005, worked for the Anchorage School District and the State of Alaska at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. After retirement, he went to work part-time for Saturn of Anchorage as a courtesy driver. When Don wasn't working, you could find him relaxing by a campfire. He also enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii, attending Aces hockey games, carpentry and woodworking. He loved to just go for a drive and listen to his old-time country music. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Henderson) Hickok; his two sons, Jeremy (Yael) and Bradley (Shellie) Hickok; his brother, Neil Hickok; his two sisters, Nelda (Don) Carlson and Anita (Jim) Busby; his grandchildren, Eli, Mel, Kristen, Seth, Wyatt, Aiden and Easton Hickok; as well as many foster children and foster grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lily Hickok. Arrangements are with Witzleben Funeral Home.
