Marge was 83 at the time of her death. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Baxter Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints located at 2240 Baxter Road, Anchorage, Alaska. A public visitation will be at 10:00 am. Bishop Hickenlooper of the Chester Valley Ward will preside. A second service will be at 11:00 a.m. December 18, 2009 at Minnis Chapel in St. John, Kansas, with Bishop Daniel Curtis presiding. She will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in St. John. Marjorie was born May 9, 1926 in St. John, Kansas, the daughter of Judge Evaret Campbell and Cassie Marie (Coen) Garvin. After graduation from St. John High School she attended the University of Texas in Austin studying Architecture. She married her childhood sweetheart Warren Ewing Swartz following his return from service in WWII. During their early marriage, they lived in Kansas City, Kansas while Warren completed medical school. They then moved to Montana where they lived for a number of years until Warren’s acceptance of the position of Chief of Surgery for Elmendorf AFB Hospital. In coming to Alaska, she followed the Alaska Highway – from about 10,000 ft up as she flew her Cesena 180 herself. Quite a gal! After Warren’s death in 1996 she lived in retirement here in Anchorage. Although she was a Jayhawker at heart she loved Alaska and made it her home. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Daine Swartz; oldest daughter, Susan Swartz; and husband, Warren E. Swartz. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Bruce) Bartlett of Oklahoma City, son Grant (Sherrie) Swartz of Salt Lake City, Utah and son Zane (Jenny) Swartz of Puyallup, Washington as well as nine grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren. She also leaves many, many friends here in Anchorage to whom she had been a happy and enjoyable companion for over 25 years. To say that her presence will be missed is an understatement. She was a joy to be around. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the LDS missionary fund or the Ida Long Goodman Memorial Library. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel: www.janssenfuneralhomes.com.
