A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 at the VFW Hall in Yakima, Wash. His ashes will be set to rest Nov. 8, 2005, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash. He was born Nov. 8, 1938, in Enfield, Conn., the third son of Henry and Anastasia Zybura. A patriot and military buff, Mr. Zybura joined the Marine Corps while still in high school. When he left the service, he returned to Massachusetts to work at the Springfield Armory. He and his family moved to Anchorage in 1974, and he served in the Alaska National Guard. In 1992, he moved to Yakima, where he worked with the state Department of Social and Health Services before retiring at age 65. During retirement, he enjoyed watching his granddaughter grow, took a trip through Europe and experienced the thrill of sky-diving. His family wrote: "John will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit; his wonderful sense of humor; and his love of singing classic country music." He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kazue; their infant son; and his oldest brother, Henry Zybura Jr. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Miyuki and Andrew Vort; granddaughter, Kazue Vort; son, John "Jay" Zybura; brothers, William and Donald Zybura; and former wife and friend, Lucy Zybura. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
