ROSEBURG, June 9. -- Roy McClellen, who shot and killed Ben Mahon, a former resident of Haines, Alaska, was acquitted by the trial jury, and released from jail Saturday. McClellen's plea was self defense. The homicide occurred on one of the principal streets of the city while McClellen was returning from a theater, escorting Mrs. Lillian Speicher, a divorcee, with whom Mahon was infatuated. Mahon accosted the couple in a menacing manner so McClellen said, and he shot him four times with a 25- calibre automatic pistol. A larger pistol of similar pattern was found in on of the Mahon's hip pockets."
