GRIFFIN, ACTING GOVERNOR OF ALASKA, DIES VERY SUDDENLY Seized With Heart Attack As He RIses To Address Gathering At Juneau Fete Juneau, Alaska - Dec 31 - (UP)-- E. W. Griffin, secretary of Alaska and acting governor during the absence of Gov. John W. Troy died of a heart attack as he arose to deliver a guest of honor address at a community gathering. The gathering was last night. Mrs. Harry Lucas, wife of the mayor of Juneau, had asked him to speak, adding: "How much longer are you personally going to be in Alaska?" The white-haired Griffin,a prominent Alaskan since before the turn of the century, smiled, stated to rise and slipped to the floor. Physicians could not revive him. Before 1900 he operated the gold and trading post at Fairbanks and after moved to the Yukon territory. He visited the states several years ago and returned in 1933 to become secretary. He was 63. He is survived by two brothers, W. Griffin, Evanston, Ill., and Frank Griffin, Miami, Fl., and a sister, Helen Griffin, Juneau. His wife had died eight years ago.
