POINT COMFORT CEMETERY
Sunrise City near Hope, Alaska

The cemetery at Sunrise City is known as Point Comfort. It was formed on May 5, 1897
prompted by the death of Angus McDonald. The number of people buried at Point Comfort is
unknown. A group of volunteers, sponsored by the Hope and Sunrise Historical Society, restored
the cemetery in 1994-1995. They researched names of the people buried there, made and
installed replica headboards and restored the fence surrounding Baby Smith's grave.

The Kenai Totem Tracers Genealogical Society is indebted to Rolfe G. Buzzell, PhD for
generously sharing his work and giving the Society permission to publish the map of this
