P. Maksutov informed Bishop Paul of the organization of the Slavic Orthodox Society at San Francisco which intended to build a church and had collected donations for that purpose. Prince Maksutov requested the Bishop to send a priest from Novo-Arkangelsk to San Francisco, stating that the Slavic Society agreed to pay the travelling and living expenses of the priest. At the same time, Maksutov reported that a certain runaway priest, Agapius Honcharenko, tried to officiate among the Slavs at San Francisco but was rejected by them as schismatic. The Consistory decided to send Priest Nicholas Kovrigin and Churchman Vasili Shishkin.
