DAILY SITKA SENTINEL (Sitka, Alaska), Friday, July 19, 1940, p. 1:  "PIONEER 
DIES AT HOME.  William H. Alford of Ruby, Alaska, died this morning at the 
Pioneers Home.  He was born November 24, 1852, at Quebec, Canada, mined and 
prospected since 1895.  He arrived at the home March 1, 1936."
