Peter TATUM left a will in Wilkes Co, GA in 1791 naming his wife, Rebeccah and children: Howell, Epps, Peter, Rebeccah, Nancy, Polly, Sally, and Thomas. The last five children were said to be under the age of fifteen years. All of these sons ended up at least passing through and leaving records in Autauga County and some in Montgomery County. Some stayed and died in the area leaving many descendants. According to a number of published histories, the ancestors of Peter Tatum are believed to be through Peter and Mary Epps Tatum; Nathaniel Tatum, Nathaniel Tatum. More research needs to be done to verify that this is indeed the same Peter Tatum as the one who descends through Nathaniel, who came to America from England in the 1600's and is said to be the son of William Tatum of London. The connections with the Epps family and Howell family seem extremely likely, as the names Epps Tatum and Howell Tatum, have been passed down numerous times in this line. Peter Tatum was believed to be born January 27, 1741/42 in Virginia, and died August 1791 in Wilkes Co., GA. He married Rebecca Howell 1765 in Virginia, daughter of John Howell and Sarah Parker. DAR and other records indicate a first marriage to Ann Chappell, which is probably an error. Epps Tatum was born in VA. He married Sukie Pryor. Source on (Sukie Pryor) an old letter by Katherine Grizzel Tatum, granddaughter of Thomas Tatum. Two of Epps Tatum's daughters married in Montgomery County in Dec 1817, and Dec 1819. Epps Tatum's name is found in a list of the first jurors empanelled at Washington on April 12, 1820. Children of Epps Tatum and Sukie Pryor are: Rebecca Tatum, who married Gallant Hagler December 12, 1817 Montgomery, AL; Peter Tatum; Mary Tatum, born 1787 in Georgia; who married William Bridges in 1819 in Montgomery, AL and died September 1890 in Coosa Co., AL; William Tatum, born March 04, 1792 in GA; died March 11, 1891 in Pine Level, Autauga, AL.; Henry Tatum, born 1800; Thomas "Tommy" Tatum, born 1809 in Georgia; died February 26, 1866 in Autauga Co., AL; and John Tatum, born in 1812 in GA, who moved to Mississippi. Howell Tatum was born October 17, 1765 in Virginia, and died June 17, 1833 in Talledega Co., Alabama. He married Henrica Organ 1786 in Georgia. Children of Howell Tatum and Henrica Organ are: Joel Tatum, born 1789, who married Polly Price 1808 in Wilkes Co., Georgia; Organ Tatum, born 1793. He married Alcey Vardeman; Howell Tatum II, born 1795; died 1833 and married Rebecca Pearce; Peter Epps Tatum, born 1797, and married Martha Gause; Joshua P. Tatum, born 1799 and married Sarah Vardeman' Berry Tatum, born 1801, and married Ms Fralick; and Thomas Jefferson Tatum, born 1803; died 1829. Most of Howell's descendant's went west to Arkansas and Texas.
