Edelen II < todedelen@elmore.rr.com > ==================================================================== November 2002 "FAIR CEMETERY", Co. Rd. 41, Prattville, Autauga, Alabama The "Fair Cemetery" is located off of Co. Rd. 41, west of Prattville. Go out Hy 14 West from Prattville going towards Autaugaville. Go about 5 miles and turn left onto Co. Rd. 41 (at Twin Valley Farms cattle ranch). Go about 3 miles and look for an old gravel pit to your left. Go past the little dirt road to your left leading down to it and into the woods. Then go about 150 yards, turn left into the 2nd driveway on your left. There is a house back in there not visible from the road. Anyway, as you come down their driveway there is a sharp curve leading to their home. You can see where the old road went straight instead of curving. There is a gate there and another one about 30 yards further. The lady of the house gave me permission to park on her drive and go through those gates. Thus I entered Mr. Smith's land past the 2nd gate. Then go through the meadow about one or two hundred yards and veer slightly to your right. The Fair Cemetery is in those woods there atop that hill or knoll. The Fair Cemetery covers about 1 or 1 1/2 acres area all on top of that knoll or hill. Only a few are marked with concrete markers, most being sunken in spots in the dirt. There must be 50 to a hundred graves on that hill, most lying in rows of sunken spots in the earth, some sunken two or three feet. Only one or two of these had a big rock or boulder marking the head. Someone had stuck little wires with the small plastic orange flags on them at foot and head of some of them. It might have been the people who cut some of the trees in there a while back. Below are the ones that I could find that are marked. I did not list them in rows like usual, as they were scattered amongst the sunken ones, only a few marked ones being in a row together: (# 1 and 2 side by side) 1. Unmarked Slab 2. Rev. S. J. Jackson Dec. 4, 1895 July 18, 1964 "At Rest" 3. Note: This one was just scratched into a sla of rock, and I don't know if the "M" was a first initial or his first name started with "M". It is as written on the rock: MEddie Robinson Died Aug. 6, 1934 5. Howard Montgomery Feb. 17, 1899 Nov. 9, 1975 "At Rest" 6. Martha Rushing Born Mar. 17, 1915 Died Oct. 18, 1949 "At Rest" 7.
