The writer of this notice will not attempt to portray the character of the deceased. He had few foibles and many virtues - a high sense of honor and patriotism. At an early age he quit his school and marched with the Clarksville Volunteer Militia of Tennessee, and fought side by side with the bravest yeomanry of that state in defence of New Orleans, December 1814, and in the memorable battle of January 8, 1815. The deceased has left many warm and devoted friends to sympathise with a numerous train of relatives. He died as he had ever lived - "an honest man, the noblest work of God."
