This file is copyrighted and contributed by: Ruth Newlan ==================================================================== March 2003 Will of Alexander Mims, Baldwin, Alabama I Alexander Mims of the County of Baldwin State of Alabama, being in sound body and mind do declare this my last will revoking all others 1st I give and bequeath to my friend Mr. Reuben McDonald, the following negroes to wit: Rose and her children, Pmpey, Joe, William, Arnitor, Emily, Virginia & Cybel also the following negroes given to me by my old and esteemed friend Patrick Mahoney, viz: Amy, Alice, Virginia, Patrick, Old Ben, Sandy, Jim, Little Ben, Hannah and her child, Ann, Rachel, Hester, and her two children, Morris and Adam, and the future increase of these said negroes (second) 2nd I also give to Mr. Reuben McDonald the balance of my property viz: lands, negroes, Cattle, Mules, Horses, Sheep, hogs, and all the property I possess of every description, except the following gifts - to my nephew Richard Jones I give the negroes as follows viz: Charles, Nip, Milley, Becka and Cintha `with their further increase. To my Neice Adaline Woodcock I give the following negroes viz: Elsy, Louisa, and child. To Joseph Brady I give twenty cows and calves. 3rd I desire that for the payment all just debts against me that my horses, mules, hogs, lands and dwelling house shall be sold in preference to any personal property 4th I request that Rose and her children shall be permitted to enjoy all the privileges of freedom and that Mr. Reuben McDonald shall either leave them free or make such disposition of them as to keep them from servitude. I also request that Rose be permitted to occupy the House near Montgomery Hill Built by Doct. Tunstall and have the use of ten acres of adjourning lands. I do desire that good care be taken of her and her children. 5th I request also that Reuben McDonald would in such manner leave Amy, Alice, Virginia, Patrick, old Ben & Morris that they may enjoy the privileges of freedom. 6th I have erased the word plantation and inserted therein the word lands on page first line the twenty seventh. Given under my hand and seal this the twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and forty five. Lastly I give to William Smoot my nephew the following negroes viz: Southay, Comfort, Isaac, Cyrus, Rachel & Viley In presence of T.J.
