McRae, M.D. Martin, Gilbert McEachern and Daniel Currie Elders. Duncan Patterson presented himself for examination and was received as a member of this Church at the same time and place the following named children was Baptized by the pastor viz: Annebella McCollom, the infant daughter of Rose and Duncan C. McCollom. Jane Catherine McRae, infant daughter of Catharine and John McRae - the latter in full communion with the church. The sacrement of the Lords Supper was also administered. Daniel Currie Clk S Died near Pea River Church the 24th of May 1854 Mrs. Mary McRae - Consort of F.A. McRae in the 54th year of her age. Mrs. McRae was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Pea River. Page 2 Mrs. McRae was a sabbath School teacher until prevented by ill health. She was a kind neighbor and an affectionate Mother. She left a large circle of friends and relations to mourn her loss but do not mourn as those who have no hope. Daniel Currie Clk s Died Near Pea River Church May 12th 1854 - David Jones son of Isabella and Mathew Jones age three and eight months. Died Near Pea River Church June 25th 1854 Sidneham W. McCall son of Mary and Paul McCall aged 8 years. Died - Near Pea River June 26th 1854 Daniel Henderson son of Margaret and Joseph Henderson age two years Daniel Currie Clk. Page 3 Died - July 6th 1854 - near Pea River Church Duncan McCollom in the 45th year of his age. Mr. McCollom was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Pea River for several years he was pious and consistante in all his Dealings - he was allways in his Seat in the house of God and his voice was always heard when in the church singing praises to God. He was Beloved by all who knew him. Mr. McCollom was a kind and affectionate husband and an indulgent father - he left a widow and five children to mourn their loss but do not mourn as those who have no hope. Mr. McCollom was principle teacher in the Sabbath School at Pea River Church - was never absent when able to attend. He gave instruction freely and openly to his class - he was liberal in contributing to all Benevolent Institutions - the Church has lost a worthy member but we hope that her loss is his eternal gain. D. Currie Clk. S Page 4 Died Near Pea River Church - September 9th 1854 Daniel McKay aged 40 years. Mr. McKay was a native of Scotland but for the last 10 or 12 year he was a citizen of Barbour Co, Ala. Daniel Currie Clerk of Sn. Married 21st September 1854 Mr.-- Smith from the State of Georgia to Miss -- McEachern Daughter of Catharine and Gilbert McEachern of Barbour Co. Alabama. Daniel Currie Clk S Married September 28th 1854 - Mr. William Lester to Miss Jane Dansby - Daughter of Isom and Abigail Dansby all of Barbour Co. Ala. Daniel Currie Died - Near Pea River Church October 15th 1854 David Ketchum a citizen of Barbour Co. Ala. for many years. Aged 58 years. Daniel Currie Clk Sn Page 5 Pea River Church - first Sabbath in November 1854 The session met and was constituted by prayer - Present M. A. Patterson - Moderator. F. A. McRae, M. D. Martin, Gilbert McEachern and Daniel Currie, Elders - Mrs. Mary Cordemon presented a letter of Dismission from the Church of Eufala which letter was in order and in date as required by our Book of Dissiplin and was received as a member of this Church in good standing. Also Lucinday McRae presented herself for examination and was received a member of the Church - as she was not baptised in infancy was baptised and also the following named children received the ordinance of Baptism viz Victoria Jane, the infant daughter of Matthew and Isabella Jones - born Aug. 26, 1854 - also the children of Harvy and Lucindy McRae, James Alexander and Phillip McRae was Baptized. A Petion from Mrs. Sarah Ziteroner? was presented for a letter of Dismission from this Church to join a church of our faith - and order in Chickasaw County in this State. The letter was granted with its recommendation. Closed by Prayer. D Currie Clk Sn Died near Pea River Church Barbour County Ala., Jan 3rd 1855 Mrs. Mary McCall consort of Paul McCall - aged 33 years 11 months and 27 days. Mrs McCall was born in the State of South Carolina January 7th 1821 and emigrated with her parents James and Mary Baxter who settled in Lowndes Co. Ala. in which county Mrs McCall joined the Methodist Episcopal Church being under ten years of age - After some years her parents moved to Greene Co. Ala. Where it became inconvenient for her to connect her self with any Church untill the year 1837 at which time Mrs McCall joined the Presbyterian Church being the 16 years of age. Mrs. McCall was pious from her youth - She removed from Green County with her widowed Mother to this county and did not remain long in this county before she joined the Presbyterian Church at Pea River which she done in the fall of 1851 Mrs McCall was a consistant Church member - was kind and Affectionate - her virtues was not surpassed by any of her sect - She was a kind Page 7 Mother and was beloved by all who knew her - She continued the Christian walk and conversation to the end of her life - She left a family of five children and a large circle of Relations and friends to mourn her but do not mourn as those who have no hope - Mrs McCall was laid in her grave in January 5th 1855 the funeral was preached by the Rev. M. A. Patterson - the congregation was large that attended the burrial of our departed friend and sister in the lord - their countenances showed that there was many a sorrowful heart around her grave - Peace to her Soul - She is gone above to be with Christ she loved. Daniel Currie Clk Sn. Pea River Church Jan. 7th 1855 The Session met - was constituted by prayer - present - Rev. M. A. Patterson, Mod., F. A. McRae and Daniel Currie - Elders. A request from Mrs. Nancy McCluer? And Mrs. Abigail Dansby for a letter of Dismission from this church to join some Church of our faith and order in the Page 8 Western part of this state which letters was granted and the pastor was appointed to write said letters Daniel Currie Clerk of Session Pea River Church - first Sabbath in March 1855 The Session met and was constituted by prayer. Present - Rev. M. A. Patterson Moderator F. A. McRae - M. D. Martin and Daniel Currie Elders. A charge was perferd against Minnis a member of this Church belonging to T. F. Baxter for base conduct viz Adultry and Elder Daniel Currie was appointed a committee to notify him to appear before the Session of this Church on the first Sabbath in April at 10 0 clock - Closed with prayer. Daniel Currie Clk Sn Pea River Church - first Sabbath in April 1855 The Session met - was constituted by prayer. Present Rev. M. A. Patterson, Mod. - F. A. McRae - M. D. Martin and Daniel Currie - Elders - The case of Minnis was taken up and the said Minnis being pressent he was asked what he had to say to the charge alleged against him - that of committing Adultrey - His answer was not guilty and demanded our proof - Page 9 to sustain the charge that was perferred against him. The session then resolved to postpone the case until the first Sabbath in May and the accused Minnis was notified to appear. At the same time and place the election of Deligate to Attend the ensuing Meeting of Presbyterry of five points - M. D. Martin was nominated and duly elected and Daniel Currie his alternate. Closed by prayer. Daniel Currie Clk. Sn. Pea River Church - first Sabbath in May - there not a corum present the session adjourned to meet the third Sabbath in May 1855. Daniel Currie Clk S Pea River Church - third Sabbath in May 1855 - The Session met and was constituted by prayer - present M. A. Patterson, Mod., F. A. McRae - M. D. Martin. Gilbert McEachern and Daniel Currie, Eldors. Mrs. Catherine McCall presented herself for examination and was received as a member of this Church and as Mrs. McCall was not baptised in infancy it was resolved that the Ordinance of Baptism be attended to after the first sermon - This day at the same time Moses a servant Boy of M. D. Martin came before the Session for examination - After giving satisfactory Answers to all the questions asked him was received. Page 10 as a member of this Church - The case of the afore named Minnis was taken up and from the evidence he was found guilty whereupon the Session resolved that he Minnis be excluded from the Sealed? Ordinance of this Church until he show some evidence of repentance and reformation - Also the same time and place Elder F.A. McRae reported that Mrs Isabella Teal a member of this Church who was previous suspended for a short time for the sin of Intemperance that she still continues to use ardant spirrits to excess and that he F. A. McRae had talked to her and advised her and persuaded her to refrain from the use of strong drink but he says it does no good - After hearing the report the Session resolved that she be notified not to commune at our next communion and Elder Daniel Currie was appointed a committee for that purpose - Closed by prayer Daniel Currie Clk Sn After devine Service the above named Mrs. McColl and Servant Moses received the ordinance of Baptism Daniel Currie Clk S. Page 11 Died near Pea River Church May 14th 1855 Daniel B. McDonald in the 65th year of his age - Mr. McDonald was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Pea River for many years and was never absent when able to attend the Church The Bible was his constant companion - Mr. McDonald was a strict observer of the Sabbath day - Mr. McDonald was born in Richmond Co North Carolina in the year 1790. He left a family of ten children and a widowed Mother to mourn their loss but do not mourn as those who have no hope Daniel Currie Clk Sn. Pea River Church - first Sabbath in September The Session met - constituted by prayer - Present M.A. Patterson, Mod., M.D. Martin, F.A. McRae, Elders - Henry a servant belonging to F. A. McRae presented himself for examination and was received as a member of the Church - The election for a delegate to attend the meeting of East Ala. Presbytery and Sinnod was taken up where-upon Elder Daniel Currie was duly elected and F.A. McRae, his alternate - Closed with prayer Daniel Currie Clk Sn. McRae, M.D. Martin, and Daniel Currie, Elders - The following named persons presented themselves for examination and admission into the Church viz. Joseph Henderson, Eliza McDonald, and Malinda Beasley and was received. A. Patterson, Moderator - F.A. McRae - M.D. Martin and Daniel Currie - Elders. Mrs. Ann Parker formerly a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Anson Co. North Carolina presents a certificate shewing that she was in full communion with that Church and in good and regular standing and was received as a member of this Church - At the same time and place the following named persons presented themselves viz - Harriett McRae - Aroline McDonald, Elizabeth McRae, and David Jones Page 14 and after being duly examined was received as members of this Church - Closed by prayer Daniel Currie Clk Sn Pea River Church - November 21st 1855 The Session met - was constituted by prayer - Present M. McRae Anakey a servant girl belonging to John McInnis - Jack a servant belonging to F.A. McRae - Mary - a servant girl belonging to M.D. Martin - Lettuce and Napsey the servants belonging to F.A. McRae - Elizabeth and Dilly - the servants belonging to F.A. McRae - and was received on examination and the first Sabbath in December was appointed for the above named Adult Cullered persons to receive the ordinance of babtism - Closed with prayer Daniel Currie Clk Sess. Pea River Church - First Sabbath in December 1855 The Session met and was constituted by Prayer. Present - M. A. Patterson - Moderator - F. A. Shipman - Aneliza S. Shipman - John N. Shipman - James Shipman - Alexander Shipman - Lewis Shipman - Mary Jane Shipman - Amanda R. Shipman - the latter named Parents in full communion with the Church Daniel Currie Clk S.s Page 18 Died near Pea River Church April 15th 1856 Mrs. Sarah Baxter - the wife of James S. Baxter - aged 40 years and two months - Mrs. Baxter was born in North Carolina - Richmond County - Feb. 16th 1816 and came with her parents Catherine and Angus Currie to the State of Alabama in Febuary 1856 - Mrs. Baxter has left a family of four children - all sons and a widowed husband to mourn the erreporable loss - Mrs. Baxter was an indulgent Mother and effectionate companion - the Church has lost an efficient member and the Community a beloved neighbour - Peace to her Soul She is gone to the world of Spirits and her body to remain in the grave until the Trump of God will sound to awake the dead under ground. Daniel Currie Clk. Died in Barbour County Ala. April 22nd 1856 Mrs. Christian O? Bryant aged 58 years - Mrs. C. Bryant was Born in North Carolina - Richmond County - She was the daughter of Margaret and Daniel Cameron who were natives of Scotland. Mrs. Bryant was a Page 19 member of the Presbyterian Church at Pea River. She has left a family of eight children and a large number of Acquaitance to Mourn but do not mourn as those who have no hope. Daniel Currie Clk. Pea River Church - first Sabbath in May 1856 The Session met and was constituted by Prayer. Present - M. A. Patterson - F.A. McRae - M.D. Martin and Daniel Currie Elders - Mrs. Elizabeth Bludsworth presented herself for examination and was received by the vote of the Session as a member of this Church - Closed by Prayer Daniel Currie Clk ss At the same time and place the ordinance of Babtism was administered to the infant son of John N and Catharine McRae - Phillip McRae Born November 14th 1855 - The Sacrament of the Lords Supper was also administered Daniel Currie Clk. The 8th June 1856 - Catharine Martin the daughter of M.D. and Margaret Martin - aged 16 years and 8 months - Miss Catharine was a student of the Colledge in the town of page 20 Eufaula - she had nearly completed her course of education altho not permited to finish yet she obtained the highest number as a writer of composition - Miss Catharine has left a large circle of friends and relation and a Bereaved father and mother to mourn there erreporable loss but do not mourn as those who have no hope but we beleave that there loss is her everlasting gain Daniel Currie Clk SS.. Pea River Church - first Sabbath in October 1856 The Session met and was constituted by Prayer. Present - M.A. Patterson, Moderator - F.A. McRae - M.D. Martin and Daniel Currie - Elders - The subject to elect a Delligate to attend the Meeting of East Allabama Presbyterry at Union Springs and Synod at Tuskegee whereupon F.A. In 49 or 1850 and did not remain long in the State before he joined the Church of Pea River and was always ready to do what was his duty to do - possessing a noble and generous disposition - made for himself miny friends - but when the Yankees Marshalled there cohorts to lay waist our native South he went with the sperrit of bravery and patriatism which should have moved every Southern son to action - leaped to arms and for miny months he stood underneath the folds of the banner of our Young Confereracy. Determined to conquer or die but alass he has fallen and yealed up his gallant spirrit in pure defense of his country - Of a high order of intellect - a pure and devoted patriatism - a kind and never dying parent? affection - high aspirations and social quallitys of the most refined and noble character had been any guarntee for a long happy life John N. McRae would still be in our midist - the charm of every circle in which he moved. John N. McRae was a kind husband - An indulgent parent and it was the hope of his friends and familey that when peace would be restored - that he would meet the happy reception around his own fireside. But oh how changed the time? - He is cold in death and Buried like many others far from Home and friends but we are sure that God is near to the righteous when they die. John N. McRae was a good soldier and was always at his post. A good young man has fallen and we Believe that he is in the enjoyment of the rest that remains for the People of God far from the noise of war and the crash of Arms. We know that whatever God does is right and we should bow in our humble submission to his holy will and while we greave that one so lovely in character has been removed from his family and session of Pea River - We rejoice and praise God for the good we have that all is well with him. John N McRae was the son of Catharine and Donal McRae citizens of N.C. John N. McRae was home but once to see his familey but remained in the service of his county - Allways ready to do his duty as a soldier - John N. McRae was a Sabbath School teacher and the instructions he gave we hope that will by lasting. In the death of this young man the session of Pea River has lost a good member. John N. McRae and R. B. McDonald were ruling Elders at Pea River and we who survive feel the loss of so worthy Members as they were. But the mighty are fallen - they [were] lovely and pleasant in their lives and in there death were not burried far apart. McRae died 16th of June and was Buried at Griffin - McDonald died the 5th of July and Buried at Atlanta - McRae leaves a wife and four children to mourn there loss but hope to meet again How blest the righteous when he dies When sinks a weary soul to rest How beam the closing eyes How gently heaves the expiring brest Life's duty done as sinks the clay Light from its load the Spirit flies While heaven and earth combine to say How blest the righteous when he dies Daniel Currie Clk S. McInnis and Catharine McInnis - Born June 13th 1868 - Also Eliza Jane daughter of Mames and Martha Brock. Died in Pike County - October 17th 1863 Mrs. Jane Hobdy in the 65th year of her age. Mrs. Hobdy was born in Richmond County N.C. and was the daughter of John McNeal. Mrs. Hobdy came with her parents to the State of Alabama with the first settlers of the State who settled in Barbour Co then Pike Co. Mrs. Hobdy was among the first that joined the Church at Pea River and was a consistent member of that church until the day of her death - Mrs. Hobdy was a great supporter of Benevolent institutions and was always in her seat in the house of God except hindered by sickness. Mrs. Hobdy was amiable and virtuous and one of the best friends to the poor - for none went away from her house empty handed. She leaves a large family and many friends to mourn their deplorable loss But mourn not as those who have no hope. Daniel Currie Died near Pea River Nov. 17, 1863 Alexander C. Teal - in the 26th year of his age. His disease was contracted in the Army for he had served in the Army for more than a year and was faithful in all his dealings - Mr. Teal was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a consistent member until his death - Mr. Teal was born in N.C. on Dec. 17th 1837 - and came with his father and mother to Ala. and was not long in the State before he joined the Church at Pea River and many are the prayers that has passed his lips. Mr. Teal has left a wife and many friends and relations to mourn their irreparable loss but do not mourn as those who have no hope and so blessed are they who die in the Lord for saith the spirit for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them Daniel Currie, C. Ss. Died January 1864 at the residence of Simon Baxter - Norman Cameron - in the 80th year of his age. Mr. Cameron was born in Scotland and came to the Uniteed States of America with his father and mother and settled in Richmond Co. N.C. and after some years he moved to the State of Ala. with his own family and settled in the County of Barbour. Went to Dale but did not remain there long - Mr. Cameron was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Pea River and remained a consistent member until the day of his death. Died near Pea River February the 5th 1864 Margaret McLean - the wife of John McLean and daughter of Angus and Catharine Currie who were emigrants from Scotland. Mrs. McLean was born in North Carolina - November 1st 1798 - Aged 65 years - three months - and five days. Mrs. McLean was amongst those that first joined the church at Pea River at its formation and was a consistent member in good and regular standing until the day of her death. Mrs. McLean was a kind mother and was a pious and good neighbour and allways ready to help the needy and always in her seat in the House of God. She is burried in the graveyard at Pea River Church which she loved - She left a husband and three daughters and two sons and many friends to mourn her loss - But do not mourn as those that have no hope Daniel Currie Clk. Died near Pea River Church June the 5th 1865 John McInnis in the 75th year of his age. John McInnis was born in Richmond Co. N.C. and in yearley life he joined the Presbyterian Church and was a consistent member of the same all of his life - John McInnis moved to the State of Ala. And was amongst that joined the Church at Pea River - He was one of the true suporters of the cause of Christ untill his death - He was a good neighbour and a just man in all his dealings. He lived to a good old age and is burried in the Church yard that he help to build - Mr. McInnis left many friends and a large circle of relations to mourn their loss but do not mourn as those that has no hope. His children all died in infancy. Daniel Currie Clk Ss. Died near Marietta Georgia July 5. 1864 Robert B. McDonald belonging to the 29th Reg. Of Alabama Volunteers from a wound received on the Battlefield on the 4th of July and when he fell he sayed to his company - let me lye that I may die easy - but he was put aboard of the cars and sent on to the hospital in Atlanta but did not live to reach there and is burried like many others are - far from home and from friends but God is near the just when he dies. R.B. McDonald was born in North Carolina Dec. 20, 1833 - Aged 31 years - six months - One week and 4 days. R.B. McDonald was raised by pious parents - He joined the Church of Pea River the 3rd Sabbath of September 1860 - and was elected Ruling Elder on the 2nd Sabbath in March 1861 and was chosen as a delegate to the Presbytery which met at Lowndesborough April 20th 1861..... It was the expectation of the congregation at Pea River that when Peace would be restored - R. B. McDonald would go to College and prepare for the Ministery ..... was a good scollar none could excell him in learning - he could memorize almost as fast as some could read ..... R. B. McDonald was the son of Martha and Malcom McDonald - the son of Daniel - the son of Malcom - the son of John which all wore the name McDonald Martha the mother of our hero - R. B. McDonald was the daughter of Daniel McRae who was a ruling Elder in the Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Richmond Co. N.C. and his grandmothers name was Sarah McKenzie all distinguished families of Scotland ... He never come home to see his relations but remained in the service of his country - He witnessed the death of his brother in the Camp at Pollard - The subject of this memoire has left a father and mother - one brother and four sisters to mourn...
