I now live with my son. I was born in Skipperville in the county of Dale in the state of Alabama on 31 July, 1853. My father's name was Noah Fountain, who is now dead. He died at Skipperville in 1862. [Note- correct date is 1864] My husband's name was John W. Stephens. We were married in 1867 at Skipperville, Alabama. He died at Clio, Alabama, the 18th. Day of December 1920. I was living with him for one year prior to his death. We were never divorced. I have never been married more than once. I have never been on the pension roll of any other county. I have never drawn a pension from any other state. I have never had a pension application rejected and my name has never been dropped from the pension roll. I have never lived in any other state. State when you moved to Alabama, her reply was ' I was born in Alabama'. My husband enlisted in the Confederate States or State of Alabama at Skipperville in 1861. He was in the infantry. He was a 'private', 33rd. Reg., Co. B. His Colonel was Sam Adams. His Captain's name was Ward. He was wounded at Franklin, Tenn. He was captured in Franklin, Tenn., in 1864. He was imprisoned in Franklin, Tenn., in 1864. He was discharged from prison in 1864 in Franklin, Tenn. He was discharged when the war ended. He was paroled. I do not have his parole. He was on the pension roll of this state. He drew his pension in Barbour County. He did not draw a pension from any other state. His application for pension in this state ever made and refused- her reply was 'no.' His name was never struck from the pension roll of this state. I have no real estate. She states all she has is her household furniture. She states she has no yearly income. The above statements are true and correct- Signed this 8th Day of June 1921 Emma E.
