H. M. Jackson “Death of Bishop H. M. Jackson” Formerly Coadjutor Bishop of Episcopal Diocese of Alabama Eufaula, Ala., May 4 – (Special.) – Bishop H. M. Jackson died at Roseland, his home, four miles north of this city, this morning at 1:00 o’clock. His condition was not regarded as alarming until yesterday, although it was known that he had been suffering from some chronic disorder for several years. He was regarded as one of the most brilliant pulpit orators in the south, and until recent troubles were brought to bear against him, held the high office of coadjutant bishop of the Episcopal church in this state. His remains will be interred here, but the funeral hour has not yet been arranged. Dr. Jackson was a native of Norfolk, Va., and about fifty years old. He was educated at the seminary at Alexandria. He filled pastorates in Christiansburg, Va., and Greenville, S.C., and in 1873 went to Grace church, Richmond. His fifteen years pastorate there was very successful. He became very popular and had very large congregations. He gave up this pastorate to accept the Alabama bishopric. This he recently resigned. Dr. Jackson was thrice married. His first wife was Miss Rebecca Lloyd, of Alexandria, Va.; his second, Miss Violet Pace, of Richmond, and the third, who survives him, Miss Carrie Cochran, a niece of the wife of Governor Oates, of Alabama. He leaves two brothers and a sister.
