Ruthie Jane Wyres a.k.a. as Janie Wyres was born January 4, 1907 in Bibb 
County, Alabama and died at age 85 on March 19, 1992 in Montgomery, Alabama in 
a nursing home. Janie Mitchell is buried in Prattville, AL along side her 
daughter, Mattie Ree Creel. Monument reads Jannie Mitchell as requested by her. 



At age 19, Ruthie Jane Wyres married James William Mitchell a.k.a Will Mitchell 
who was age 45 (born Jan. 10, 1877) and had two deceased previous spouses, 
Della Wyres and her half-sister Lizzie Mae Duncan; both second cousins of 
Ruthie Jane Wyres. Ruthie Jane Wyres had daughter Dorothy Wyres at age 15 and 
Dorothy Wyres was raised, until age 13, by grandparents, John Adam Wyres and 
Missouri Foley Wyres. Janie Wyres Mitchell created many warm quilts for family.



Children of Ruthie Jane Wyres (" Janie Mitchell ") and James Will Mitchell are 
Mattie Ree Mitchell Creel (spouse; Warren Curtis Creel); Mabrey Mitchell ; 
James Edward Mitchell ; John Howard Mitchell. After death of son Mabrey 
Mitchell in 1969, Janie Wyres Mitchell had custody of his two minor daughters.  

  

Additional Comments:
Janie Wyres Mitchell helped raise Jesse Clifford Mitchell (moved to Tenessee as 
adult), youngest child of Della Wyres Mitchell, the first wife of her husband, 
James William Mitchell. Son, Mabrey Mitchell died June 1969 in Columbus, 
Georgia hospital after head injury in auto wreck leaving two minor daughters.
