Bibb County AlArchives Cemeteries.....Vernon Cemetery, Vernontown - Complete Survey ************************************************ Copyright. From the intersection of US Route 82 and AL Hwy 5, travel north on Hwy 5 approximately 1 mile to the intersection of Bibb Co. Hwy 9. Turn west (left) onto Hwy 9 and travel approximately 5 mile to the Vernontown Road (a gravel road that goes to the north or right). If you reach the West Scottville Church, you have traveled too far. Traveling north on the Vernontown Road, pass a gravel road to the left, pass the bridge and travel approximately 1 mile and look to your left (west side of the road) for a road that doubles back up a slight embankment. Turn onto this road and travel up into a parking area (grass covered) and look to the right and ahead of you. Beyond the low white brick wall is the cemetery. It sets along the west side of the road, on top of a 10 to 12 foot high embankment. The listing of graves begins with those closest to the gate (north) and continues to those furthest from the gate (south). The cemetery can also be reached by taking the Lucille Church Road west from LA Hwy 5 south of West Blockton approximately 5 or 6 miles. This route seems longer, as it is a gravel road used for timber hauling but it will take you through the area called Vernontown, which to the descendants of those buried in the cemetery might be of some interest. I would be careful by either route on rainy days and I would suggest visiting during late autumn as the weeds will be down and the weather was dry. Order presented is generally from north to south with gate entrance being the north end of cemetery.)
