Baty, great-great granddaughter of Albert Lafayette Arnold.] A. L. Arnold Celebrates His 78th Birthday Mr. A. L. Arnold of Six Mile celebrated his 78th birthday Sunday July the 15th, with a family reunion at his home at Six Mile. All of his children were present but two, Rev. Ross Arnold of Greenville, and Mrs. Marvis Arnold from Marvel. The following children were present: Mrs. Theo Eday, Centreville; Mrs. W. W. Arnold, Six Mile; Mr. R. E. Arnold, Six Mile; Mr. Felix Arnold, Six Mile; Mrs. J. M. Battle, Six Mile; Mr. Wilson Arnold, Camden; Mrs. Fannie Caffe, Jones, Ala.; Mr. M. A. Owens, Birmingham; Dr. and Mrs. J. S. Moore from Birmingham were also present. Mrs. Moore is a sister of Mrs. A. L. Arnold. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold have 11 grandchildren and five great grand children, several of the grandchildren were present, but only one great grand child. Several nieces, nephews and friends completed this happy gathering. At noon a big picnic dinner, consisting of all of the good things to eat were served under the shade trees in the yard, of which forty nine were fortunate as to be present at this feast. The birthday of Mr. Arnold is one that is looked forward to from one birthday to another by his relatives and friends. Mr. Arnold has arrived at his seventy eighth mile-post hale and hearty, and if some unforeseen accident or sickness does not overtake him he will be able to reach many more mile posts in the same fine physical condition. He can out walk some of the champion foot ball players, and can out work a much younger man. The Press extends congratulations to Mr. Arnold and wishes him many happy returns of the same. Mr. Arnold has been taking the Centreville Press every since it was first published at Six Mile, and has stuck to his County’s paper through all of its ups and downs. We wish for him many years of happiness and prosperity and may he always be able to hold his family reunion without the family circle of loved ones being broken. The Centreville Press, August 2, 1928, page 1 Mr. A. L. Arnold Dies At Birmingham Hospital The many friends of Mr. A. L. Arnold were grieved to hear that he died Tuesday morning after an illness of about ten days, in a Birmingham hospital, where he had been carried for an operation, and he was doing as well as could be expected for one of his age when he developed pneumonia the last of the week, which was the immediate cause of his death. With the passing of this good man, the Community and County has lost one of its best citizens, and it will be hard to find one who will fill his place. He was a member of the Baptist church at Six Mile, and was faithful to every obligation. He was buried at the Six Mile Cemetery, Wednesday at ten o’clock. One of the largest crowds that ever attended a funeral at this place were present to pay their last respects to their departed friend and neighbor. The beautiful floral offerings, attested to the love and esteem in which he was held. Rev. J. W. Mitchell preached the funeral, and paid a glowing tribute to the life of the deceased. The following children with his widow survive him: Rev. Ross Arnold, Greenville; Mrs. Trucks, Six Mile [should be Birmingham], Mrs. J. R. Reynolds, Plantersville, Mrs. Theo Eady, Marvis Arnold, Marvel; Miss Geneva Arnold, Six Mile. The following brothers and sisters also survive: W. M. Arnold, Six Mile; R. E. Arnold, Six Mile; Felix Arnold, Six Mile; Mrs. J. M. Battles, Six Mile; Wilson Arnold, Camden; Fannie Caffee, Jones, Ala. The Press wishes to extend to the bereaved family our sincere sympathy, in this their hours of sorrow. AL Death Certificate for A. L.
