BROOKSVILLE POST OFFICE

The town of Brooksville was among the first to be settled in North Alabama. 
Brooksville was named for Henry Brooks, son of Jacob Warren Brooks, who came to 
Blount County from Abbeville, South Carolina about 1818.

The Brooksville Post Office was established November 1, 1836 with H. W. Brooks 
as postmaster. For a time the post office was located just north of Brooksville 
on Reed's Hill. After the Civil War it was moved to Brooksville. The present 
building was built by Frank Smith. The post office continued with only brief 
interruptions until December 30, 1966 when it was discontinued.
