HAYES, M. D., Union Springs, was born in May, 1853, in Chambers County, Ala. His parents were Dr James A. and Anna L. (Thomas) Hayes, native Georgians. Dr. Hayes. Sr., practiced medicine at Union Springs from 1859 to 1883, and died in the latter year. Our subject received his elementary education at the common schools, and attended Emory College, at Oxford, Ga., in 1872. He began reading medicine in his father's office in the spring of 1875. In the fall of 1875 and spring of 1876 he attended the Medical Department of Vanderbilt University, at Nashville. In 1878-'9 he attended medical lectures at the St. Louis Medical College, and graduated from there in March of the latter year. He immediately commenced the practice at Union Springs, where he has since been professionally engaged. He is a member of the Bullock County Medical Society and Examining Board; member of and Senior Counselor in the State Medical Association, and Health officer of Bullock County. Dr. Hayes was married in 1883, to Miss Annie M., daughter of Dr. Robert Williams, of Barbour County. They have two children living: Maud C. and Carrie B.; Geraldine Hunter died at the age of sixteen months. Dr. Hayes is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
