E. SMYTH was born Augst the 4, 1820 WILLIAM M. SMYTH was born August the 3, 1828 DAVID J. SMYTH was born November the 9, 1830 JACOB A. SMYTH was born July the 3, 1833 EDNEY P. SMITH was born May the 11, 1836 ROBERT M. SMYTH was born February the 18, 1839 EDNEY SMYTH, the mother of EDNEY P. THOMAS, died December the 31, 1850, the wife of R. SMYTH JOHN P. E. SMYTH died March the 15, 1860. ROBERT SMYTH, the father of EDNEY P. THOMAS, died April the 12, 1860 DAVID J. SMYTH died on the 29 day of ____, 1862 WILLIAM M. SMYTH died on the 5 day of November, 1862. NOTE: WILLIAM ROBERT THOMAS, son of ROBERT THOMAS and his wife ELIZABETH STRINGER, entered the information in his Bible. He died in Red River Parish, Louisiana in 1911, but his Bible was not "found" until recently. He was from Butler County. The Civil War almost "wiped out" the ROBERT SMYTH family. EDNA PERMELIA SMYTH was the first wife of WILLIAM ROBERT THOMAS. She died in the early 1860's and he married LEVICY E. SKIPPER October 9, 1865. JOHN P. E. SMYTH married MALINDA RHODES, daughter of JARED RHODES. She died befroe 1860, leaving four small children. John P. E. was then married to ELIZA THOMAS, a cousin to WILLIAM R. THOMAS. JOHN P. E. SMYTH died in 1860 and is buried in the Rhodes Cemetery. Three sons of ROBERT SMYTH died in the War, WILLIAM M., DAVID J. and ROBERT M. Only one son, JACOB A. SMYTH remained of the entire family. JACOB A. SMYTH married MARTHA M. BECKWORTH, granddaughter of JARED RHODES, before April 16, 1853. There were two daughters: EDNA MALINDA, who married WILLIAM GRAY COOPER; and ELIZAMBET M. who married DAVID CRAIG. Jacob Smyth's second wife was JULIA ANN NEWTON, who had no children. WILLIAM M. SMITH married JULIA ANN MARTIN before the courthouse fire. There wer two Smyth children in 1860: JOHN B. and L. A. (female). JULIA ANN SMYTH married JOHN LOWERY in 1870. (Julia Ann's maiden name is not proven.) DAVID J. SMYTH married ELIZA ______, and there were two children in 1860. ROBERT JEFF and M. J. (female). ROBERTH M. SMYTH married MARY A. MASON before he went to War. WILLIAM ROBERT THOMAS's brothers and sisters were: MARTHA, wife of S. K McCormick MARY ANN FOSTER ANDRESS, wife of JEREMIAH ELIZABETH, wife of JOHN THOMAS, her cousin SARAh JANE. [NOTE from Mildred Brown: In reference to listing of William M. Smyth's wife, her name was Julia Ann Rhodes, not Martin. She was my 4th great-grandmother. Some records indicate that David J. William's brother, married Eliza Thomas, another cousin of William Robert Thomas. However, this records shows that Eliza Thomas, a cousin, married John P. E. Smyth. Could there have been two cousins with the same name?]
