The only reason I have recorded it is because of my interest in my family history who are buried at this cemetery, it is a hobby (genealogy), and no one had recorded them. Here is the information I promised to send to you regarding this cemetery in Georgiana, Butler County, Alabama. I enjoyed doing the work and only wished I lived in that area so I could find more treasures like this. I have no family members as interested as I am to do the work for me so it comes in bits and pieces. My maiden surname is Rue. These are my family surnames as I research my partial lineage family tree. DESCRIPTION: This is a small cemetery with many concrete slab gravesites and well preserved. The cemetery is located behind the Springhill Baptist Church and has a forest floor covering due to the pine trees ajacent to it. There was a long narrow red dirt road from the main highway that eventually exits at the cemetery behind the church. DIRECTIONS: Travel south on Interstate 65 from Greenville, go about 16 miles and take the Starlington/Georgiana exit 144 and continue to travel west on State Highway 106. You will pass Jct. 17, but continue on Highway 106. Turn left where Dean Country Store is. After you pass this landmark watch for a second landmark which is a sign that states Mount Rose Baptist Church. This will be a dead-in dirt road. Turn at that sign and pass Mt. Rose Baptist Church and a few homes. At the end of this rough road will be Springhill Baptist Church and Cemetery. The cemetery is located behind the church's parking lot. DATE RECORDED: 11 Jul 1994 by Freddie Shearin, Henry Lee Rue and Alice Rue. Updated and relationships identified by Gloria Ross, David Pressley and Ritha Reed, Dec 1995. FIRST KNOWN INTERMENT: The oldest gravesite noted is in 1909. LAST KNOWN INTERMENT: CURRENT NOTE: The Herberts (first spelling)/ Huberts (name changed)/Hubbards (phonetic spelling) are related to each other although their surnames are spelled differently. Many of the graves were not mark and I noticed depressions in the soil were gravesite must have been. The demarcation lines were distinctive.
