The only reason I have recorded it is because of my interest in my family history who are buried at this cemetery, it is a hobby (genealogy), and no one had recorded them. Here is the information I promised to send to you regarding this cemetery in Georgiana, Butler County, Alabama. I enjoyed doing the work and only wished I lived in that area so I could find more treasures like this. I have no family members as interested as I am to do the work for me so it comes in bits and pieces. My maiden surname is Rue. These are my family surnames as I research my partial lineage family tree. You may use it freely in any capacity. You may send it to others etc. Thank you, Freddie Shearin This is a list of people buried in the Stamp cemetery as of July 11, 1994. This is not a complete list of people buried there because some graves do not have headstones, but it is an attempt to identify the gravesites that are currently still visible. According to Ida Jacobs, there are more graves placed back in the woods and when the land was cleared to accommodate even more people the property line is not what she remembers. Ida states that some of the Rues are buried in the Bennett Cemetery, Georgiana, Butler County, Alabama too. MaeBelle (Rue) Stamps tells me there are Rues buried at the Pressley Cemetery near the May Cemetery in Georgiana. DESCRIPTION: this is a medium size family cemetery enclosed by pine trees on all sides. A well kept cemetery. The boundaries of the original cemetery have been expanded, according to Ida Jacobs. LOCATION: T8N, R13E, Tract 23, Lot 41, south of Starlington. DIRECTIONS: Traveling south on Interstate 65 from Greenville, go 16 miles and take the Starlington/Georgiana exit 114 and travel west on State Hwy 106 for 6.5 miles. Pass Jct 17, and stay on Hwy 106 and turn left (south) at Highway 15 stating north and south. Go 1.0 mile, the cemetery can't be seen from the road. The cemetery is located on the right side of the road with a small sign stating Stamps Cemetery hidden by tall grass. A small unpaved red dirt road is just prior to the sign. Turn to the right and go up a few feet into a clearing where the cemetery will be visible on the left side of the road. DATES RECORDED: 11 July 1994, by Freddie (Rue) Shearin, Alice Rue, Henry Lee Rue. This list was updated and corrected by Freddie (Rue) Shearin and Mabel Johnson on 04 Sep 1995 visit to the cemetery. FIRST KNOWN INTERMENT: 1849 as noted on the headstone. LAST KNOWN INTERMENT: CURRENT NOTE: there are numerous unmarked graves which are fairly well preserved and many graves noted by depressions in the ground covered by the forest floor. According to family, there are two white people buried at this cemetery. They were the first to be buried there, hence Stamps cemetery. The land the cemetery is on and the surrounding land was owned by them. Their names are BRITTON STAMPS and his wife, (can't identify her name on the gravemarker could be Sarah or Sallie). 1.
