Mildred Stinson Brown Gatesville, Texas ------------------------------------ EBENEZER EAST BAPTIST CHURCH This church was organized April 19, 1914. The presbytery in charge was Rev. C. L. PERRY and J. M. WALLER, a deacon. The following members were charter members: J. M. WALLER, Mrs. J. M. WALLER, Nettie WARD, Minnie WALLER, Mrs. Recy GRAYSON, Mrs. Emily GRAYSON, J. E. CLEGHORN, Mrs. Willie H. WALLERm H. E. THOMSON, Mrs. Mary THOMSON, Ruby WALLER, Beulah CLEGHORN, Mrs. Alice HOUSTON, J. D. WALLER, Arrie GRAYSON, and Leila GRAYSON. The first sermon was preached in the church building on Thanksgiving Day by the pastor, Rev. C. L. PERRY. The building had not been floored and the people sat on planks. The following preachers have filled its pulpit: C. L. PERRY, A. C. SHELL, G. D. EVERETT, Marvin ELMORE, R. L. TINDAL, W. A. GAUGH, A. W. BARKER, J. E. PARKER, M. C. GRIFFIN, J. C. DUNLAP, Bob PARKER, J. L. P. COOK, WILCOX, Ed HARGROVE, BLANKENSHIP, CARGILLE, Cecil DeLOACH, J. H. COUNTRYMAN, A. L. DENNIS, and the present pastor is George McCLURE. Two young men, John Kendrick SMITH and Cecil WOOD, were ordained by this church. Ebenezer East Church has evergreen Sunday School, with good attendance; and also a W. M. U. and Training Union. It is located four miles east of Greenville in a fine community, and has a bright future. The church entertained the Association in 1956.
