Additional note:  Was unable to clearly make out the last name of the 
sheriff.  Talked to Judy Taylor, BCHGS and asked who the sheriff was during 
this period.  Her reply by email dtd:  10/22/2008 4:26:33 PM subj:  Re: Mark 
Franklin Estate Record Transcription was as follows:  

Lisa,
 
Got your phone message and I've been searching for your sheriff.  The only one 
I can possibly come up with is James H. Perdue who was elected - or took 
office in 1871.  If there was another one between him and Wm. Flowers in 1874, 
I can't find him.  And I think they did serve for four years - if they weren't 
shot and killed by a desperado or some such.
