Deaths reported in Southern Christian Advocate, 1837-1869: 11-07-1845: Departed this life at the residence of Dr. Barge, in Butler County, Alabama on the 24th September, John H. Fowler, sone of the Rev. D. C. and Sarah C. Fowler, about one year and 8 months old. 03-27-1846: Died in Butler County Alabama on the 4th inst., Doctor John Barge aged 54 years... a native of N.C., where he studied medicine under Dr. B. Robinson of Fayetteville.... removed to Alabama in 1819. 12-15-1859: Miss Nancy Kelsey died in Butler Co., Alabama, 27th October, last.... brought up in Presbyterian Church but joined the M. E. Church. 01-05-1860: Rec. McCarroll Peurifoy, M. D., died November 7, 1859 in Butler County, Alabama, in his 58th year. Continued by A. Peurifoy. 08-16-1860: Edward F. Brooks was born in GA, June 12, 1827, and died Butler County, ALm June 24, 1860. Johnson, died May 18th, 1861 at South Butler County, Alabama, born July 12, 1841. 01-15-182: Elizabeth Catharien Bundy, wife of Joshua D. Bundy, and daughter of John L. and Barbara Adams of Butler County, Alabama, was born November 14, 1845, married 11th October 1860, and died 13th October 1861. 04-17-1862: Abel Barge was born in Fayetteville, NC, and died in Wilcox County, Alabama, December 28, 1861, aged 82 years. 09-25-1862: George T. Barker, brother to John E. Barker, was born in Barbour County, AL., November 8, 1841, and died in hospital at Greenville, AL., August 29, 1862. 10-16-1862: Tribute to three deceased chaplains, by Greenville Ct., Alabama Conference to William Franklin Herlong who died July 26, 1862; James Tillery, who died September 9, 1862; and Isham Morris, who died September 16, 1862. 11-13-1862: William Franklin, son of Mr. Daniel and Sarah E. Hurlong, died near Chattanooga, on 26th July, 1862, in his 35th year. (prob. Herlong) 11-27-1862: Rev. John B. Warren died in Butler County, AL., aged about 36 years... born in Monroe County, AL. 01-08-1862: George Southwell, son of Simem and Hester A. Tyner, of Butler County, AL., was born in Effingham County, GA, 24th March 1834, died about the middle of September 1862. 03-05-1863: Elizabeth Webb Barge was born in Georgia December 25, 1802, and died in Butler County, AL. December 14, 1862. 03-02-1863: Joseph Hays, of Butler County, Alabama, Captain Green's Company, 18th Alabama Regiment, adopted son of Ester Hays died at the hospital on Okolone, Mississippi in his 23rd year. 04-02-1863: Died in Butler County, Alabama, March 12th, Henry McTiere, only son of John T. and Elizabeth A. Harris, aged 2 years and 4 months in Butler County, Alabama. In Butler County Alabama Maarch 22, Mary Willie, only child of William C. and Sallie S. McTeize, aged 18 months. 06-25-1863: Died Laura Alice Buntyn, daughter of W. D. and S. A. B. Buntyn, May 25th, in Butler County, Alabama, aged 5 years 1 month and 26 days. 07-16-1863: John H., son of Rev. Daniel and Sarah E. Herlong, of Lowndes County Alabama died at Fort Gaines, near Mobile, AL on the 8th April in his 39th year. 09-10-1863: In Butler County, March 12th, Henry M. Harris, only son of Elizabeth and John T. Harris, aged 2 years. 10-22-1863: Zaccheus C. Galoway of 33rd Regiment A. V. C., died near Georgiana, Butler County, Alabama on 8th September 1862. 03-31-1864: Oscar Hamilton, some of Mrs. John A. Ellis (late Mrs. Segismunda M. Hamilton) of Banks County, Mississippi, died March 3, 1864, at the residents of his step-father in Butler County Alabama, aged 7 years and 6 months. 07-28-1864: Lt. George W. Bedell of Greenville, AL, 1st Ala Cavalry, was killedon June 20, 1864. 09-22-1864: Lt. John A. Harrison of 13th Ala Regiment, was born in Butler County, AlabamaApril 29, 1840... 28th July 1864, mortally wounded. 01-26-1865: Freeman Ellis, died in Greenville, AL October 8, 1864. Only 14 years old, he joined the army last July. Two weeks more and his widowed mother was childless... som of Re. J. W. Ellis, deceased of the Alabama Conference. 03-23-1866: William H. Rinion, born in Columbia County Georgia, 8th of January 1818, and died in Butler County 26th January 1866. 09-07-1866: William Wright was born in Georgia, on 17th October, 1797, and died near Greenville, Butler County Alabama July 23, 1866.
