Article Greenville Advocate Mrs. Daisy M. Thagard Buried Here Wednesday Mrs. Daisy McKenzie Thagard died at her home in Montgomery early Monday night after a short illness. Mrs. Thagard, the widow of the late W.J.Thagard, and a member of the pioneer McKenzie family of Greenville, resided in this city until ten years ago, when she retired and moved to Montgomery, where two of her daughters reside. For many years she was outstanding in the educational and cultural life of Butler County. She was a graduate of the old Greenville High School and attended a state teachers college. She went back to college later and received her degree from Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn. at the same time degrees were awarded her two elder daughters. Mrs. Thagard taught in Butler County schools and for some years served as director of the Butler County Department of Public Welfare, serving during depression days when the work presented many difficult problems. She won recognition for excellent service. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Harry O. Halse and Mrs. Hoyle B. Williams, both of Montgomery: Mrs. W. H. Fields, Jr., Port Jefferson, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Hawkins, Montgomery; grandchildren. Burial was in Magnolia cemetery. Pallbearers were Judge T. Werth Thagard, Guy Walton, H.P. Martin, Ralph Peagler, Jesse Williams,Jr. and Joe Winkler.
