Thagard - Butler Co., AL W. J. Thagard died 8/17/1945. Greenville Advocate article W.J. Thagard Funeral Held Prominent Greenville Citizen Dies after Short illness Last Friday Warren Jackson Thagard, 71, died at a local infirmary last Friday morning, after an illness of about three weeks. Mr. Thagard was born May 10, 1873, a member of a pioneer Butler County family. He entered business in Greenville as a young man, and was prominent in the business life of the city for many years. A few years ago he retired and moved to his farm two miles southeast of the city to devote his entire time to farming operations. Mr. Thagard had a large number of friends, whose friendship was won by a friendly nature and a sincerety of character which endeared him to those with whom he came in contact. For a number of years he was a member of the city council, and always took a keen interest inthe affairs of the city and county. Surviving are his wife, Daisy McKenzie Thagard, three daughters, Mrs. Hoyle B. Williams, Mrs. Harry Halse and Mrs.Billy Fields, seven grandchildren, two brothers, J.L. Thagard and John M. Thagard, one sister, Miss Mattie Thagard and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted at home on Saturday a.m. the 18th. by Rev Joseph Avery, 1st Baptist Church. Burial in Magnolia Cemetary.
