The following is a copy of the marriage license of George Smith and Mary E.
Dukes.
[Note: George Smith is a possible brother to Annie Elizabeth Smith, daughter
of George Washington Smith.]

THE STATE OF ALABAMA, } BUTLER COUNTY -- ss/		}
To any ordained or Licensed Minister of the Gospel, Judge of the Circuit or
Probate Courts, or Justice of the Peace for said County - - GREETING:
You are hereby authorized to celebrate the Rites of Matrimony between George
Smith and Mary E. Dukes and this shall be your sufficient authority for
sodoing.
Given under my hand and seal this 28th day of December A. D. 1868 and of
American Independence the ______ year.
