McCLELLEN, born near Jacksonville, Ala., October 24, 1847, is a son of Samuel D. and Deborah (Price) McClellen, natives of East Tennessee. The senior Mr. McClellen came to Alabama with his parents in 1834, and settled in Talladega County. In 1844 be removed to Calhoun County, where he was engaged in farming. He represented the county in the Legislature one term, and assisted in removing the Indians from the State. He died in December, 1887. The McClellens are descendants from Scotland. The Price family came from Ireland. The subject of this sketch was reared on a farm and received an academic education. He worked on a farm until 1868, when he came to Jacksonville, where he was engaged in mercantile business with his father. In 1883 he was engaged in the livery business for a short time, and in January, 1884, came to Cross Plains, started in the millinery business, and subsequently engaged in general merchandising. In 1887 he was running a brick business in connection with farming and merchandising. In January, 1874, Mr. McClellen was first married to Dollie Barron, of Jackson County, and had born to him one child. Mrs. McClellen died in 1878, and in December, l886, Mr. McClellen was married to Sallie Glover, of Cherokee County. Mr. McClellen is a member of the Baptist Church and is also a prominent Mason.
