THE CENTER METHODIST CHURCH (NOW KNOWN AS DeARMANVILLE), WAS ORGANIZED IN 1860, BY UNCLE DICKY ROBERTS (RICHARD GAINES ROBERTS, SR.) THE CONGREGATION MET IN THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE OF SPLIT LOGS AND PUNCHEON SEATS, LOCATED NEAR THE PRESENT CHURCH. In 1861, the community built a two-room schoolhouse of logs, which was used in a place of worship by the church. Services were held monthly, on week days, until after the Civil War, when the meeting day was changed to Sunday. At the time the church was organized, the community was known as Center and did not have a railroad station or post office. After the station and post office were established, the early settlers changed the name to DeArmanville, the family name of the first station agent for the railroad. The change in name was necessary because another Alabama town already carried the name of Center.
