Draper died at the home of her sister Mrs. Hughes of Choccolocco, the 28th of August. Mr. Robt. Draper had returned with her from Texas some months ago to this county with the hope that the change would benefit her health, bu the careful solicitude of affection was unavailing. --- Mrs. E.J. Lee, an estimable lady of Oxford, died at that place on the 28th of August. --- Jno. Morris, the man who as shot by Garner in Anniston last week is doing well and is likely to recover. --- The sad intelligence of the death of Mrs. Emma Boone of Hawkinsville, Ga., reached this place by telegraph Wednesday morning. She died after a very brief illness. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Driskill of this place. The family are plunged in the profoundest grief over the death of their beloved relative and in that grief they have the tenderest sympathies of this entire community. --- Mr. H.C. White of Cross Plains spent Sunday last with his brother Mr. Jno. B. White in Jacksonville. --- Mr. Wily P. Mangham, editor of the Rayville, Louisiana Beacon newspaper, has been visiting this county where he was born and reared and where he has many friends and relatives living. He has written some interesting letters back to his paper. Among other incidents of his youth, a visit to Shenk's Sulphur Springs, recalls the time forty years ago, when as a lad, he attended a Democratic meeting at that place and heard Bill Davis read the Declaration of Independence. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Saturday, SEPTEMBER 8, 1888 ALABAMA State News BARBOUR County News Mrs. Mary Bush, wife of J.A. Bush of Barbour county is dead. She was well known and esteemed throughout the county. --- MONTGOMERY County News Dan Williams, alias Bill Dooly, a notorious negro who attempted to murder Pete Armstrong in Montgomery on Oct. 11, 1886, and who escaped, was arrested Friday night in Birmingham. --- JEFFERSON County News Mollie Grantham, daughter of Wm. Grantham of Warrior, was badly burned by her dress taking fire from a burning match which was carelessly thrown at her by her younger brother with whom she was playing. Her burns are quite serious. --- SHELBY County News Shelby County lost one of its best citizens and humanity one of its best friends in the death of Hon. James T. Leeper. He has served his county as Probate Judge nearly twenty years with efficiency and fidelity. He never had any opposition before the people. He was one of the most amiable and exemplary men we ever knew and his record as a judicial officer is without stain. His virtues in private life corresponded with his fidelity as an officer and his life was adorned with the beauties and consistencies of a humble follower of the Redeemer. Judge Leeper had many friends in this section who will regret to hear of his death. The Talladega Reporter. ---- CALHOUN County Local News Mr. L.G. Hames, son of Capt. Wm. M. Hames of this place, left this week for Clarksville, Tenn. He has entered the S.W.P. University at that place to study for the ministry. --- MARRIED IN CALHOUN County John W.
