It was a life of infinite sweetness and grace that went out with the soul of Lucy Daughdrill on Tuesday. She was born is sight of Piedmont, reared here, educated here, married here, and here she died; and they were those who had known her from childhood, and loved her, who tenderly laid her away in the little burial ground here to await the summons of the redeemed to the inheritance of the righteous. She was the daughter of Joshua E. and Eliza Brock; and no parents ever had child more diligent in affection or more persistent in devotion. She was the wife of Colin J. Daughdrill; and no husband ever had wife more abounding in conjugal duty, more faithful in all the domestic offices, or more lovingly gracious in all the social relations. For nearly two thirds of her life she had been a member of the Methodist church; and no church ever had member more mindful of religious obligation or with more generous and abiding faith in the saving efficacy of divine grace. For nearly one third of her life, the hand of affliction had been upon her; and no one ever bore suffering with more patient and uncomplaining resignation or seemed so indifferent to self and so thoughtful of others when racked with pain and under the shadow of evil. Hers was a lovely and beautiful life, which made happier all with whom it was associated; and around her open grave were clustered affection as fervent and grief as profound as ever mourned any idol of fond hearts gone to its immortal reward. Mrs. Daughdrill was born June 20, 1855; joined the Methodist church at about fourteen years of age; was married about seven years ago; and died June 20, 1893.
