The Anniston Star, September 17, 1947
Mrs. Josephine Hammonds, 74, died at the residence of her son, Herman Hammonds, 
in Alexandria at 3 o'clock this morning.  
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at Rabbittown 
Baptist Chruch with the Rev. Durro Wood, the Rev. T. D. Stovall and the Rev. H. 
R. Carter officiating.
Burial will be in the Rabbittown Cemetery, Usrey in charge.
Mrs. Hammonds is survived by six sons, Burt Fincher of Austin, Tex.; George 
Hammonds of Jacksonville, Herman Hammonds of Alexandria; Vernon Hammonds of 
Anniston; Louis Hammonds of Wellington, and Jay Hammonds of Piedmont; four 
daughters, Mrs. Nora Hollingsworth of Jacksonville; Mrs. Bessie Dothard of 
Piedmont; Mrs. G. J. Smith of Anniston and Mrs. L. M. Coleman of Piedmont; 21 
grandchildren and four great grandchldren.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Davis Jennings, Edward Jennings, Burrel 
Reid, Ruben Hammonds, Charles Hammonds and Clarence Smith.  Her granddaughters 
will be flower girls.
