Mrs. Harriet V. Howell, nee Parker, was born in Walton County, Georgia on the 17th of July 1833, and died at her home in Oak Level, Cleburne County, Alabama, March 10, 1899. She was united in marriage with Rev. W. P. Howell, in Cleburne County, Ala., December 29, 1850, and lived happily with her devoted husband until her death. At the early age of 14 she made a profession of religion and united with the M.E. Church, South, of which she remained a consistent member through life. Sister Howell was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are now living. She was a model house-wife--”a keeper at home,” and in the true sense of the word, was a help-meet [sic] to her husband, sharing his joys and sorrows and uniting with him, truly and earnestly, in the responsible duty of rearing a large family. Sister Howell, was an elect lady whose life was one of gentleness and peace. Truly it could be said of her, that she adorned the profession of Christ, being a living witness for Him in her daily walk and conversation. Hence, in her life there shone out continually the “beauty of holiness.” She attested the power of the gospel to save, by living her religion daily. There is no estimating the value of such a life in its sweet influence upon others. Not until the judgment reveals all things, will the full extent of this good woman’s example be known. Sister Howell was a great sufferer with a lingering malady which slowly sapped the fountain of life. But in the midst of all her sufferings there was a patient resignation to the will of God. She died as she had lived, in the triumph of that faith which had sustained her in the midst of all her sufferings. May that gracious God who sustained her in life comfort the bereaved husbond [sic] and children who now sadly mourn her death. M.T.M.
