Leak The hearts of the many friends and relatives of Mrs. Laura A. Leak, who was so well and favorably known by many of the citizens of Piedmont and vicinity, have recently been pained by the sad intelligence of her death, which occurred at Navasota, Tex., on the 20th ult. She was born in Laurens Dist. S.C., March the 16th, 1832, and married to J.F. Leak Dec. 18th, 1850. Soon after her marriage she removed with her husband to Cass county, Ga., where they resided for many years. About fifteen years ago they came to this section, where they lived until about nine years ago, when they went to Navasota, Texas. Mrs. Leak was the mother of a large family of children, two of which preceded her spirit land. Mrs. Wm. Leak and Mrs. John A. Amberson, of near Piedmont, are among her surviving children, who are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother. May they all, together with the bereaved husband and father, compose at last an unbroken family in some one of the many mansions in Our Father’s House. Mrs. Leak professed religion and joined the M.E. Church South in early life, and lived a devoted christian [sic] until the day of her death. Her piety was not a fitful flame, manifesting itself only on special occasions, but was as “a shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Truly her peace “flowed as a river, and her righteousness as the waves of the sea.” She was always ready to do and to suffer the Master’s Will; and it may truthfully be said of her, “She hath done what she could.” Her’s was a beautiful life, and its close was as peaceful and calm as that of a bright summer day. So fades a summer cloud away; So sinks the gale when storms are o’er; So gently shuts the eye of day; So dies a wave along the shore. P.H.B. (Patrick H.
