MELLON DIES AT HOME MONDAY NIGHT Prominent Calhoun County Farmer Passes Away While in Bed William Edward Mellon, age 81 prominent Calhoun County farmer, died at his home in Oxford sometime during Monday night. Mr. Mellon was found dead in bed this morning by members of his family. Funeral services will be held from the residence at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W. L. Holderidge, pastor of the Oxford Baptist church, will officiate and interment will be in DeArmanville Cemetery with Usrey in charge. Active pallbearers will be J.A. Orr, J.N. Griffin, Sam Hallman, C.F. Douglas, Dr. M.J. Williams and M.N. Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be W.C. Gray, D.C. Cooper, G.W. Eichelberger, J.W. Alexander, C.E. Zaner, Dr. T.J. Patton, T.A. Turner, Thad M. Gwin, H.M. Burrow and C.B. Roberts. Mr. Mellon was born and reared near LaGrange, Ga., and moved to this county about 50 years ago. He was widely know over this section of Alabama. Surviving are four sons, Foster, Ed, Sam and Tom Mellon, of Oxford, and three daughters, Mrs. James F. Brittain, of Oneonta; Mrs. Groce Hubbard of Talladega, and Miss Betty Mellon, of Oxford, and a sister, Mrs. T.S. DeArman, of Mangum, Okla.
