Samuel Morgan, at the advanced age of 77 years, 9 months and 7 days after a short but severe attack of Pneumonia. He was born in New Jersey, and while young his Father moved to Georgia. He lived there until 1834, when he moved to this State. He enjoyed good health and was uncommonly stout and active until stricken down by the disease that ended his earthly race. He was a member of the Methodist Church, to which he was strongly attached. He was correct in all his dealings with his neighbors and orderly in his deportment. He was a model of punctuality, industry and honesty. He was liberal to his children, dividing amongst them his increase, and reserving to himself only what he considered necessary to render him comfortable in his declining days. He lived to see his children's children's children. During his last sickness he retained his reason, and knew all his children and friends that visited him. He murmured not at his affliction. When interrogated in reference to death, he always expressed a willingness to die and also an assurance that he was prepared for Heaven. He has left a large posterity who mourn over his departure, but they sorrow not as those who have no hope. The testimony is clear and indubitable. Their loss is his everlasting gain. Additional Comments: Samuel Morgan, Jr. was born in Newark, New Jersey, on April 26, 1779, and died in Benton (now Calhoun) County on February 2, 1857.
