On the 10th instant, Mrs. Sarah Jane Nabors, wife of Joel Nabors, died at the family residence near town, in the seventy-second year of her age. Mrs. Nabors, a daughter of Moses Whitesides, one of the pioneers of this section, was born in Buncombe county, North Carolina, on the 15th of June, 1822, and came with her parents to this vicinity in, or about, 1834. She was married in 1845 to Joel Nabors, who survives her, and together they lived where their married life began almost half a century. For many years, she had been greatly afflicted. Twenty or more years ago rheumatism seized upon her, never to let go its hold; and for more than half of that time, she was confined to her house, a constant sufferer. With rheumatism, there were complications more imminently dangerous, if less painful; and the prolongation of her life year after year seemed almost a miracle to her physician and family. Death came to her relief. She died in peace and resignation. She has gone where “sickness and sorrow and pain are felt and feared no more.” Her remains were reverently laid away in the family burial ground on the old homestead.
