The funeral was Oct. 5th at 2:30 p.m. at the Hollis Memorial Church with Rev. Tom Inglis conducting and burial was in the Goosepond Cemetery with Word-Yates-Bolton in charge. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mary Belle Rice, Scottsboro Rt. 3; three daughters, Miss Ola Rice, Scottsboro Rt. 3, Mrs. Bernice Staton, Scottsboro, Mrs. Marvin Williams, Homewood, Ind; three sons, Draper and John Rice, Scottsboro Rt. 3, Beeson Rice, Chattanooga. He also leaves 15 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren and five greatgreatgrandchildren. Mr. Rice was a real pioneer of Scottsboro community and was one of the most honorable and best-liked citizens the area has ever known. He followed farming all his life even into his advanced years. He was a Christian gentleman and liked people and was always ready to help[ or oblige his neighbors and friends whenever a call was made. He was a staunch pioneer and his life was worthwhile to our community and county.
