R. G. ROBERTS DIES SUDDENLY SUNDAY EVENING Death of Universally Beloved Woman Causes Sorrow in Oxford Sorrow and grief settled over Oxford like a pall on Sunday night and Monday as the news passed from home to home that Mrs. Eliza Hornbuckle Roberts had been called from earth into a life of sweet repose and ample reward for her 68 years of beautiful Christian service, the sudden death of the universally beloved woman coming as a distinct shock to the friends of the family throughout many sections of Alabama. In the death of Mrs. Roberts there is removed from earth one of the genuinely lovable types linking the old and the new, a woman whose home influence has extended far and near has joined the silent majority and real grief of the king that lingers holds sway today in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Roberts was 68 years of age at the time of her death, her last birthday on February 29 having been celebrated with many unusual features, the distinction of Leap year birthdays having been hers. Born at the Judson college during the presidency of her father, the late Dr. Hornbuckle, Mrs. Roberts spent her childhood and early womanhood under the roof of the honoral institution, and during all the years of her active life since moving to Oxford at their marriage she had had an active interest in the woman's educational center of the Alabama Baptist, educating her daughters at the famous institution founded by her illustrious father. Mrs. Roberts' health had not been good during; the past winter, but she had improved apparently and had been up and about the house for the past week. She was stricken suddenly Sunday evening and passed away within a short time despite the efforts of neighbors, physicians and nurses to restore her after the Sunday evening attack. Surviving the lamented Oxford woman are five grown children, Earl Roberts, of the Anniston Hardware Company sales staff; Mrs. James Orr, of Oxford, Captain R. Gowan Roberts, of Talladega; Mrs. Foster Mellon of Oxford and Mrs. Sam Mellon of Fort Worth, Texas, whose father, the late Richard Gaines Roberts, died at his home in Oxford about five years ago. Funeral arrangements are being held uppending the arrival of Ms. Roberts' youngest daughter, Mrs. Roberta Roberts Mellon, who is en route home from Fort Worth. The services will probably be held on Wednesday from the late's home, with interment at Oxford cemetery.
