Watkins, 95-year-old employee of the Anniston Foundry Company, was instantly killed by Southern passenger train No. 40 west of Anniston this morning when he was struck as he was walking down the track. Watkins was partially deaf, and it was believed that he did not hear the train. The tragedy occurred on a curve. It was said G. M. Watkins was A Confederate veteran, serving in the Virginia campaign and being wounded twice. After the war was over, he walked from Virginia to Alabama. Mr. Watkin was born on December 21, 1834, near Roanoke in Randolph County. He came to Anniston shortly after Mobile brothers and Company started work on what was later named the Woodstock Furnace. Mr. Watkin's had been employed at the Anniston Foundry Company for the past 10 year. He lived alone near West End and did his own cooking. The aged Confederate is survived by one son who lives near Oxford. Anniston Star May 5, 1922: Mrs. Mary M. Watkins 85. wife of G. M. Watkins died at the family residence in Kirbytown early Friday, morning atter an extended illness, leaving besides. her husband. one son to mourn her death. Mrs. Watkins had lived for many years in that section of the city and her death came this morning with a peculiar sadness for those who had known and loved her for a long time. The funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon by Rev. G. W. Henry. the interment be in the Pine Grove Cemetery. [Death Cert states she was the daughter of J.J.
