Old Davistown Cemetery is located on Downing Mill Road in Calhoun County, 
Alabama.

Many of the tombstones in this cemetery are impossible to read, so I did 
a "rubbing" with paper placed over the inscription, then rub over the paper 
with a crayon,  to see if the names and dates would be legible.  I am happy to 
report that this method works quite well with no damage to the tombstone.  
Without doing this the majority of the older tombstones would have been 
unidentifiable.

There are many unmarked graves in Old Davistown Cemetery.  As with most old 
cemeteries the fieldstones, that were used to mark a loved one's final resting 
place have for whatever reason disappeared.  In most instances where there is 
no doubt a burial, all signs of a grave have also disappeared.   I have 
indicated here where there are still fieldstones visible, however the 
inscriptions for the most part have long since weathered away. Due to the age 
of Old Davistown Cemetery it  is impossible to estimate with any accuracy the 
number of unmarked burials here. However I would say at least 150 to 200 
unmarked graves are in this cemetery.
