BARROW was born October 11, 1845, on a farm 5 miles east of LaFayette, AL. He spent his young manhood at home until the date of his enlistment in the Confederate army. He enlisted at the age of 18 in Company "G" 37th AL Reg., in October, 1863, and served with this regiment until the close of the war in 1865. Mr. BARROW, at the age of 21, was married to Miss MARY J. ASKEW, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. JAMES ASKEW, of Cusseta, AL. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. BARROW: J. L. BARROW, LaFayette, AL; Mrs. J. D. MURPHREE, Troy, AL; Mrs. R. P. THOMPSON, Montgomery, AL; and H. R. BARROW, LaFayette, AL. While in his 'teens Mr. BARROW joined the Baptist church, and has lived a consistent Christian life since that date. Unless sickness prevents, he is always present at Sunday school and church on Sunday. Farming has always been his occupation, and one uncommon event in his life is the fact that he has lived on his farm, the place of his birth, almost all of his life. The people of Chambers County will remember Mr. BARROW as their former Tax Collector, who served his people in a creditable way. At the time this sketch was written, Mr. BARROW was 78 years, six months of age, and while not enjoying the best of health, is able to be out among his friends.
