NOTE: From an undated article in The LaFayette Sun - " After an illness of a few weeks, Mr. GEORGE GAMMILL died the night of August 24th, at the home of his daughter Mrs. JOHN BLANTON. During his late years he had been in very feeble health. His death was caused from a complication of diseases coupled with his old age. He was a devoted member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church and until his failing health had always taken an active part in church work. Once upon a time he was one of Chambers County's most progressive farmers and was a public spirited, enterprising citizen, and ranked among our first-class school teachers. Mr. GAMMILL and family moved to Birmingham and he and his companion were back here on a visit to the old homestead when death occurred. Elders JOHN T. SATTERWHITE, and W. B. MORGAN conducted the funeral services in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. His remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery." Another undated article from The LaFayette Sun was published entitled A Tribute of Love. " In loving remembrance of our dear uncle, Mr. G. W. GAMMILL, who passed away on the night of August 24th. His home was in Birmingham, but spent his last days at his old home near Dudleyville. He was 76 years old and had been in feeble health for many months. He joined Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church when but 16 years old and has lived a Christian life ever since. He loved his church and attended services regularly until his health failed him. Uncle GEORGE was loved by all who knew him and was always willing to help those in need. He had kind words and loving smiles for all whom he met and was both a kind father and loving husband. Having been married twice, his last wife being Miss ANNIE ALFORD, they lived happily together until death separated them. He reared a family of 13 children, 11 of them living and two had gone on before to meet him on that bright shore. He bore all his sickness and trouble with much Christian fortitude. We could not realize how much we would miss his cheerful presence before death claimed him as it's own. He fought the battles of life bravely and finished his course, and has gone to reap his rich reward. His remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery, the funeral services were conducted by Elders J. T. SATTERWHITE and W. B. MORGAN. Weep not dear loved ones for him who has gone on before to dwell in peace and happiness forever more. He has only gone to rest, to sleep in Jesus forever blest. He has left a vacancy in our home and has filled one above. Written by his niece, ANNIE D. JACKSON, Marcoot, Ala." (11.) GEORGE ALFORD, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. GAMMILL, August 25, 1879 - August 1, 1906. "Amazing Grace how sweet the sound was his dying song. In love he lived, In peace he died, His life was craved, but God denied". NOTE: From an undated article in The LaFayette Sun. "On last Wednesday Mr. G. A. GAMMILL, formerly of Chambers County, died of fever at his home on Fifth Avenue in Birmingham, where he has been living for the past few years. Mr. GAMMILL was about twenty-six years old and was the son of Mr. GEORGE GAMMILL who for a number of years was a well known and highly respected citizen of Chambers, having moved to Birmingham about six months ago to live with his son. The deceased was a young man of sober, industrial and moral habits, and was rapidly coming to the front as a businessman of bright promise. He leaves a father, mother, and several brothers and sisters. His remains were interred at the family cemetery near Fordyce last Thursday." (12.) Evidence of a grave but no marker. This is believed to be the grave of ELIZABETH DUNSEITH HAMMOCK, born August 27, 1828, and Indian Springs, Butts County, GA, and died March 18, 1917. NOTE: From and undated article in The LaFayette Sun. "Mrs. ELIZA HAMMOCK a venerable old lady of eighty years of age, died at her home in the western part of the county last Sunday and was buried at the GAMMILL Graveyard on Monday. She had been a widow since the Civil War, her husband having been killed in the war. She left no children or immediate relatives." Chambers County ML V5 #643-2 issued to WILLIAM J. HAMMOCK and ELIZA DUNSEITH, December 29, 1861, by H. GILMORE (MG), at the residence of JAMES TALBOT.
