Clark March 2002 Holstun Cemetery Chambers County, Alabama Notes in ( ) were added by contributor. Starting at the NE corner of the courthouse square in LaFayette, travel east on Alabama Avenue. This street will eventually become County Road #267, and the pavement will end. Continue traveling on unpaved road for a total distance of 5.4 miles from the starting point. The cemetery will be on the right-hand side of the road, surrounded by and in the woods. It is located in Section 2, Township 22 N, Range 27 E, on lands that were once the plantation of Stanmore Holstun. An ornate iron fence once surrounded the graveyard but was stolen by vandals in the mid 1970s. Also, most of the marble slabs on the graves were totally destroyed. A wooden fence was built in place of the iron one, but is now almost rotted away. I first visited this cemetery in 1975, and since then have been several other times. It was during a visit in the late 1970s that I copied these epitaphs. There are a total of 14 distinguishable graves. 1. A broken piece of marble that reads "In Memory of William M. Walton" 2.
