Oct. 6th 1857 Judge of Probate Sir: I herewith send you a certified ___of my ________ and letters, as administrator of the Estate of my wife, Mary Ann Atkins, dec., which you will please file in your office and write me when the amount due my wife’s estate from the Estate of Wm Hawkins, Jr., dec, will be paid and I will then furnish you my ____for the amount and will entrust you what disposition to make of it. Yours, Alfred L. Atkins (note: Mary Ann Adkins/Atkins was the daughter of William Hawkins (son of Thomas) and Sarah Adams. Her brother William named her in his will. We looked for them in Lowndes and couldn’t find them--perhaps they were in Chambers Co. Her husband is called “Alfred” in William’s will, but in these papers it looks more like Alphons. I’ve written it as Alfred so we’ll know who he is.) *************************************************************************************** The State of Alabama, Chamber County Know all men by these present, that Mr. Alfred L. Atkins, principal, and Harris T. Norris and James W. Keller, executor, of the County and State aforesaid, are held and firmly bound unto Wm. Compton, Judge of the Probate for said County, and his successors in office, in the ____sum of two thousand dollards, for which payment will we truly to ___. We bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, privately and severally; firmly by the payments. Sealed with our own seals, and dated this 28th day of September AD 1857. The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bound Alfred L. Atkins has been appointed administrator of the estate of Mary Ann Atkins, deceased. Now if the said Alfred L. Atkins shall well and truly perform all the duties which can or may be by law required of him as such administrator then the above obligation to be void: otherwise to remain in full form. Atkins to my said court, I have caused these Letters of Administration to ___in favor of said Alfred L. Atkins in an ___the goods and chattels, rights and costs of Mary Ann Atkins, deceased: and in every case which occasion may require, the said Alfred L. Atkins is authorized to bring suit and be said, as the lawful Administrator to the said Mary Ann Atkins, deceased. Witness W.L.
